Get A Job You Lazy Hobo
Words written by U. Utah Phillips - June 2000
Utah was flying back from a trip and to pass the time was tinkering with
some song lyrics. When he got home, he sat down and recorded them and sent me
a copy for the web site.
Brand new, and released only here, straight from Utah to you, his parody
song -
"Get A Job You Lazy Hobo"
(Sung to the tune of "Go to sleep you weary hobo."[Goebel Reeves])
Oh get a job you lazy hobo
'stead of drifting all the time
A'can't you hear the factory whistles
Unemployment is a crime
You'd better think about tomorrow
Get a job and make some dough
A'soon you'll have a TV dinner
In a nice warm bungalow
Although your mop is torn and ragged
And the water's cold and gray
There's a stack of greasy dishes
Needs attention right away
I hope the bull cook gives you trouble
And rides your ass until you're dead
So you can get a job in heaven
Swamping out the angel's head
So get a job you lazy hobo
'stead of drifting all the time
A'can't you hear the factory whistles
Unemployment is a crime
As he puts it: "A hit! A palpable hit!"
Want to hear Utah singing it? Here is an MP3 of
the tape. (Lenght: 2:08, 754K file size)
