So what do you do when you have a 1 day engagement and you have flown
half way across the country?
You turn it in to a week long Vacation/Second Honeymoon---
At the Oldtown School: Preshow - Utah with professor Ronald D. Cohen. Comparing
and contrasting the history of traditional performers and the 20th century
phenomenon of professional folk music performers.
And away we go...
Utah played to a Sold Out house. As always at the Oldtown. :)
After the show we stopped off at Sterch's Bar. This is where Fred Holstein
tended bar and Utah tries to visit when hes in town to remeber Fred.
Utah and some of the regulars, a few of which had attended the performance.
Utah views a poster by his old friend Carlos Cortez, who was a member of the
IWW, wrote poetry and created art for many years before his death in January
2005.
Joanna and Utah checking out the Pilson neighborhood.
And at the end of the week---
How best to see some of Chicago then a Chicago River cruise.
And its time to get on board and take our seats.
The docent explaining the sights points out the low clearence when you don't
raise the drawbridge as we pass under.
Pam, Utah, and Joanna take in the tall buildings from the river side view.
There are many bridges, car and train, that cross the river downtown.
As a special treat, this river tour also goes out through the locks for a
brief ride on Lake Michigan.
Here we glide past Lake Point Towers.
And out past Navy Pier with its landmark Ferris Wheel.
Out through the locks on to the lake...
Utah at the bow.
The evening view of the city from the lake.
Utah and the lighthouse that marks the location of the locks.
The sun sinks lower and the city sparkles.
Utah and Joanna
And a close to the day and the week with a picture of the sun setting behind
the city.
But wait! One last picture where Utah is with the water cannon that shoots
hourly across the Chicago River.
